Meet Allison Purcell. Her jaw dropping gorgeous home will leave you longing for bright bold and beautiful colors. When I say bold, I mean knockout rooms to die for. When most people jump on the lacquer train by painting a console table, Allison pushes the envelope and lacquers her dining room walls and ceiling! When most people add a pop of pink with a throw pillow or two, Allison places a hot pink chair in the foyer to greet you. When most people are afraid of using too much of the same color in one room, Allison pours the same rich and dreamy color on her drapes and walls. If you are feeling adventurous and want to “kick it up a notch” (to quote Emeril), view this sophisticated and elegant home tour. You will be saying, “BAM! I want that same stunning look for my home.”
Meet Allison Purcell | Home Tour
Allison and her husband Barry live in Richmond, Va with their two beautiful children, Jack and Ellie. Allison is as gracious and poised as she is beautiful. It was snowing while we were there shooting the home and Jack and Ellie were thrilled to be out of school and playing in the snow. The way Allison was so patient with them going in and out of the house while we were there was amazing to watch. I would have been a nervous wreck. On the contrary, Allison was as calm as a cucumber, putting their snow boots on, finding gloves from last winter and fixing hot chocolate while giving us the tour! She’s wonder woman in my book.
The Living Room
“The colors from our previous home in the fan were dark and heavier hues and I wanted this house to have a soft palette with lighter colors” says Allison. “This is my favorite room, especially when the afternoon light shines in.”

The Dining Room
Allison stated, “The inspiration for this room came from the antique Chinese nickel rug from Barry’s parents. His grandmother lived in Hawaii which is where the Asian influence in his family began.” The fantastic lacquered walls and ceiling were done by Rodney Lambert. She credits the lacquered walls and matching colored panels idea to the talented Janie Molster. One cool trick I noticed is that the crown molding was painted as well. It really makes a powerful statement. So, you want to know the color I presume? It’s Millspring Blue by Benjamin Moore mixed with products from Palette in Richmond. It was a tedious process from what Allison said, but the end result is worth it I’d say! And can we please talk about the showstopper in the middle of the room? I couldn’t take my eyes of the lucite and glass modern dining room table and the Czechoslovakian chandelier. Oh my goodness, I was speechless.
I’m loving Sunny Goode‘s painting paired with the chic hot pink chair! Perfection. The colors in the painting blend perfectly with the living room and dining room palettes.

I’m loving this sunny sunroom. It’s a cozy spot to relax, unwind and escape from the busy day.
