It’s time for the Lowe’s Holiday makeover reveal! After pouring through the amazing applications, I chose Kristy Harvey’s home in the historic waterfront town of Beaufort NC. Her outdoor holiday porch project was right up my alley. The inside of her home is traditional with a touch of coastal chic. She, along with her mom Beth Woodson of Design Chic, wanted me to provide outdoor holiday decorations that were festive, yet classic. She wanted to be sure that the decorations blended well with the decor inside her home. Instead of the Christmas red and green, I decided to go with a traditional yet elegant color scheme of green and gold, leaving out the reds. A touch of glitter and gold accents were just what the porch needed in order to shine bright in the most “Jackie O” sort of way.

The front porch made it easy to draw up a design plan. I knew I wanted to drape pre-lit garland on the upper and lower white railings. The three front facing windows and the glass front door were perfect for wreaths embellished with sparkling gold ribbon. I’ve got a holiday decorating tip for you. Kristy had the genius idea to make pretty bows out of two different patterns of ribbon, and weaving them together – giving the bow more texture and interest.
Beth’s Holiday Tip: Attach real greenery at the end of your garland for a finished look.
On the front porch was a round table. We filled a glass vase with natural greenery and red berries, while enhancing the look with holiday decor such as gold starburst ornaments and tree cones.
On the opposite side of the porch, we decorated the coffee table with a tray filled with more ornaments. The starburst ornaments resembling a sea urchin shape were perfect for this coastal living home. We added white tree candles and a gold reindeer figurine for the finishing touch.
On her application, Kristy said she wanted a tree on the porch. One of the challenges was finding a tree that fit with the aesthetic, and added to the magical setting. I found just the tree, and in fact, we used two on the porch and three more below in the front yard.
Out in the yard, the amazing Morehead City Lowe’s team was busy hanging white lights in the trees, and arranging the sweet reindeer. We even had adorable packages on the steps. It’s true, you can create a magical winter wonderland even in North Carolina! The key word is magical, because it was just that. Kristy’s son Will was beaming with excitement the whole time we were there.

After the garlands were placed and the wreaths were hung, after the lights turned on and the sun went down, we all walked out to the street and gazed up at this beautiful holiday scene. No one spoke for a minute. We were all just taking a moment to enjoy the beauty of this holiday season and the magic that surrounds us this time of year.
Thank you to Kristy Harvey and Beth Woodson for allowing me along with Lowe’s to come takeover your home for a day. It was pleasure getting to know both of you!
