It’s easy to put together an appetizer cheese tray to accompany your wine tasting happy hour.
Appetizer Cheese Tray:
Just like my wine, I like to include a variety of options for my friends. I pair robust flavored cheese with a mild flavor to counterbalance the tray. My favorite is strong bleu cheese; however I always have a simple cheddar on hand for my less daring friends.
Grapes are a staple. Apples and Pears are fantastic with a sweet Moscato wine.
Lastly, round out the tray with your favorite crackers. They give just enough crisp to marry the fruit and cheese together.
I also like to have ingredients on hand to make Bruschetta at the last minute when we have unexpected company. It’s delicious and ready in minutes. There are so many variations and different toppings to Bruschetta. Here is my favorite combination.
Bruschetta with Tomato and Basil
Thick slices of bread of French bread
Sliced Plum Tomatoes
Fresh basil leaves chopped
Place chopped tomatoes in a mixing bowl. Stir in a dash of salt, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Brush both sides of your bread with olive oil and place on a baking sheet.
Broil on each side for approx 3 minutes or until bread is browned.
Top with chopped tomato mixture and fresh basil.
Here are a couple of tips to remember when serving wine at your get together, no matter how large or small. First, have two or three choices for your guests. Everyone’s tastes are different. So serve a couple of different wines and keep your bases covered. Secondly, serve in clear wine glasses so you can see the wine. Being able to see the color of the wine adds to the experience in tasting the wine. You can always add a pop of color with your cocktail napkins. That’s all you need to enjoy a beautiful afternoon happy hour with friends or family. Cheers!
