Home Tour – Lona and Gill Crittenden
Welcome to the home of Lona and Gill Crittenden, the nicest and most genuine people you will ever meet. They live in Richmond, Virginia in this inviting English cottage style home with their son Thax. This home tour is a real delight. Each room is decorated to perfection with light and bright colors juxtaposed with dark wood floors and exposed wooden beams. You will be longing for more by the end of the tour, which ends up in their dreamy kitchen where Lona is whipping up some sweet treats.
Home Tour – Living Room
The living room is Lona’s favorite room in the house. She has special items that reflect her love for horses and riding displayed here and throughout their home.
Gil actually grew up in this home. After his Mom moved out, Gil and Lona decided to sell their farm and move back into his childhood home, in order to be closer to the city. The inspiration for the complete remodel was to keep that farmhouse feel from where they came from. Gil says, “We are not formal people, we are comfortable people”.
Gil talked about how his home was the central meeting place of the neighborhood when he was growing up. In keeping with that spirit, they wanted the new remodel to be new enough to be exciting but maintain that comfortable feeling that drew people here throughout the years.
Gill used to hide his “valuables” as a small boy in this side table. He was convinced no one knew his secret hiding place.
Home Tour – Dining Room
The dining room is decorated with a beautiful grass cloth wall covering and art work with black frames. In the curio cabinets are vintage plates and serving pieces they use for their catering business and entertaining.
Chandelier – Shades of Light
Round Table – Arhaus
Home Tour – Den
The beams in the room and mantle are reclaimed from Tredgar Iron works in Richmond, VA ( called “skins” from the warehouse). This cozy room, decorated in warm earthy tones, is filled with books, trinkets and treasures in every corner and nook.

Home Tour – Kitchen
Lona is a woman of many talents, and her kitchen is proof of that. In addition to her fabulous taste in design, and her passion for cooking, Lona and Gill run their own catering business, Cater 2 Events. While they lease a commercial kitchen, some times they prep and cook in their kitchen at home. She even has a cookie oven! With the help of Katheryn Robertson, Lona designed a kitchen that gave her the same country feel as their farm house. I may not be a great cook or caterer, but I really want that sink. It’s amazing.
See Lona in action as she whips up some desserts for an event taking place that day.
Counters – Carera Gold marble
Floors – reclaimed tobacco wood barn walls
Chandelier and Ceiling light – Shades of Light
Rustic Cheese Trays – Pottery Barn
Thank you Lona and Gil for graciously opening up your beautiful home. I am truly inspired and I’m sure all BB&B readers will be as well.
